2010 Risk-Adjusted Stroke Rate Following CABG Surgery

19 hospitals in Washington perform cardiac surgery. One significant complication that can occur following cardiac surgery is stroke. All 19 of these hospitals participate in COAP, a statewide quality improvement program and are working hard to keep the incidence of this complication extremely low.

Results for this measure refer to the percentage of patients in Washington State that experienced a stroke following their coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Since 2004, the statewide average has varied between 1.1% and 1.5%, but overall remains a rare complication. Individual hospital results for 2010 range from a low of 0% of patients experiencing a stroke to a high of 3.8%.
