Dr. Mark Williams, Professor and Chief of the Division of Hospital Medicine, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, leads a nationally-recognized project in the reduction of hospital readmissions. His keynote address will describe the process for identifying and preventing rehospitalizations, a key emerging quality improvement issue with implications for patient care and reimbursement.
Dr. James Blankenship, Director of Cardiology, Geisinger Health Systems, will provide a second keynote address discussing causes of readmission after PCI and discuss which readmissions are avoidable based on a multi-year study done in the Geisenger health system.
Dr. Chris Bryson, COAP Medical Director, will share the quality rankings from each hospital in Washington State, with a focus on facilities that perform at or better than the top 10% of each quality metric for both PCI and CABG surgery for the 2009-2010 data collection year. Dr. Bryson will also introduce the concept of Patient Specific Quality Indicators, which goes far beyond the typical O/E ratio in analyzing patient risk and hospital performance. There will be an opportunity to examine the method and exciting opportunities for COAP members to utilize this information in their quality improvement process.
For over fourteen years, physicians and surgeons, hospital leaders in cardiac care and quality improvement, and data experts from across Washington state have collaborated to improve cardiac revascularization care.
